Learn how to use App Installers in Jamf Now to add third-party macOS apps to your available apps list and deploy them to managed Mac computers through blueprints without manual software packaging.

Jamf Now App Installers remove the need to manually package software by providing a catalog of third-party macOS apps admins can deploy directly to managed computers. To distribute an app, admins add a software title from the App Installers catalog through the Apps section of Jamf Now, then assign it to a blueprint targeting the appropriate devices. Within the blueprint's Apps section, each app can be configured to install automatically the next time managed computers are online, made available in Self Service for user-initiated installation, or both. This workflow ensures consistent, repeatable software delivery across managed Mac computers without requiring admins to maintain custom packages.

Hi there! Jamf Now App Installers enable admins to distribute third-party macOS apps to managed computers, removing the need to package the software. So, let's go through a quick overview of how to use App Installers in Jamf Now. To start, we need to add an app to Jamf Now to make it available for distribution. Navigate to Apps in the sidebar, click Add an App, and then click App Installers. Here we have all of the apps currently available via App Installers. For this example, I'm installing Dropbox on all of our Customer Education computers. In the What app are you looking for? field, we can enter "Dropbox" to search for the app. Once found, click Add and the Dropbox app is added to our available apps list. We can verify this by navigating back to Apps in the sidebar. With our app now available for distribution, let's deploy it. Navigate to Blueprints in the sidebar and select the blueprint for the devices that you want to add the app to. In the Apps section, click Edit Apps, or if you've haven't added any apps yet in the blueprint, click Add App. Here we have a list of all of the apps that are available for distribution. We can see that the Dropbox app for Mac can be installed automatically, made available for download in Self Service, or both. For my example, I'm setting it to Install Automatically. With the option selected, click Save Changes and the next time the computer is available and online, the app is automatically installed on the computer.
