Use the returnToservice option to instruct iOS or iPadOS devices to automatically reconnect to Wi-Fi after erasure and re-enroll with Jamf Pro. Return to Service eliminates the need to manually guide an erased device through certain Setup Assistant screens that could previously not be skipped, including the screens for setting the language and region, and connecting to Wi-Fi.

If devices are registered with Apple School Manager or Apple Business, the MDM profile can be excluded. This will cause the device to check for an enrollment profile during activation.

Return to Service instructs a device to perform the following actions:

  1. Reset using Erase All Content and Settings.

  2. Securely wipe all data.

  3. Cache the Wi-Fi profile and MDM profile.

  4. Restart.

  5. Apply the previously configured language and region settings.

  6. Display additional Setup Assistant screens as configured in Automated Device Enrollment.

    Note:

If you use an enrollment customization configuration with a PreStage pane that requires authentication (i.e., single sign-on or Directory Service), you must use the mdmProfileData key for the device to automatically connect to Wi-Fi and install the MDM profile. The user will not be required to authenticate with their credentials when using the returnToService option.

  7. (Optional) Install the Wi-Fi profile.

  8. (Optional) Install the MDM profile.

  9. Connect to Wi-Fi.
    Note:

If Wi-Fi is unavailable, devices can also connect to the Internet via an alternate method, such as a tethered connection.

  10. Re-enroll with Jamf Pro.
    Note:

If your PreStage enrollment is configured with minimum OS enforcement settings, the settings will not be applied and devices will complete enrollment without requiring an update.

After the Return to Service process completes, devices return to the Home Screen.
