With Jamf Pro, you can actively manage and report on Apple's Activation Lock feature in your environment. Activation Lock is a security feature that ensures that unauthorized individuals cannot use a lost or stolen device. When leveraging Activation Lock with an MDM solution like Jamf Pro, both user-based and organization-based Activation Lock can be used.
User-based Activation Lock, also referred to as user-linked Activation Lock, relies entirely on the end user, but Jamf Pro does collect a bypass code for mobile devices that can used to bypass Activation Lock after a device has been wiped. Organization-based Activation Lock, also referred to as organization-linked Activation Lock, allows for a greater degree of control and management from Jamf Pro, including the ability to enable Activation Lock via remote command.
In Jamf Pro, user-based Activation Lock can be allowed on both computers and mobile devices, but enabling organization-based Activation Lock is specific to mobile devices. A device can only have one type of Activation Lock enabled at a time.
