You can use Jamf Pro to allow an end user to leverage user-based Activation Lock on a computer or mobile device, enabling the user to use their own Apple Account credentials. User-based Activation Lock relies entirely on the end user signing in to iCloud and enabling Find My to enable Activation Lock. If Activation Lock was not allowed by Jamf Pro, enabling Find My on a device will not enable Activation Lock.

Note:

You can also use a mass action to allow user-based Activation Lock on multiple computers or mobile devices at the same time. For more information, see Mass Actions for Computers or Mass Actions for Mobile Devices.

Requirements

To use Jamf Pro to allow user-based Activation Lock, you need the following:

  • Supervised computers with Apple silicon or a T2 security chip
  • Supervised mobile devices
  1. In Jamf Pro, click Computers or Devices in the sidebar.
  2. Perform a simple or advanced computer or mobile device search.
  3. Click the computer or mobile device you want to enable user-based Activation Lock on.
  4. Click the Management tab, and then click the Set Activation Lock command.
  5. Select Allow user to enable Activation Lock on the device and then click Set Activation Lock.

The end user must then enable user-based Activation Lock by signing in to iCloud with their Apple Account and enabling Find My. After the next inventory update, Activation Lock status will display as "Enabled".

Note:

The Apple Account used to sign into iCloud cannot be a managed Apple Account.
