Cleaning up the database prior to an upgrade reduces the chance of delays or failures during the upgrade process. Taking the steps explained below can help clean up the database.
- Cleaning up inventory
Use advanced searches to find the computers and mobile devices that have not been in contact with Jamf Pro for an extended period of time. If you are able to confirm that a computer or mobile device is no longer in use and you have no need to keep the inventory record for reporting or auditing purposes, delete the record from Jamf Pro.
Note:Removing a computer or mobile device record from Jamf Pro will remove all inventory details of the device, including the FileVault 2 recovery key and other important data. Be certain that you do not need the inventory record before deleting it.
- Cleaning up configuration profiles
Determine if there are any macOS or iOS configuration profiles that are not being used. If the profile will not be used in the future and there is no need to keep it for reporting or auditing purposes, delete it from Jamf Pro.

Ensure that Jamf Pro is only collecting inventory information that computers and mobile devices are submitting to Jamf Pro. Collecting unnecessary inventory items may add reporting time and network traffic to the inventory process.
