An effective Trusted Access implementation includes automated actions and reports that allow you to maintain secure devices, automate certain actions, and organize your devices in an effective manner.

You can create smart groups to identify specific characteristics about the devices in your Jamf Pro environment, which allows you to automate certain management tasks and audit changes to the devices in your environment based on those characteristics.

Organizing computers and mobile devices into smart groups allows you to identify devices based on certain criteria. Because smart group membership is dynamic, you can use smart groups for scoping and deployment, but you can also automate certain management tasks in Jamf Pro. For example, you can identify computers that have not been encrypted via Filevault, and then scope a policy to enable Filevault for the computers in that group. You can also set up email notifications for group membership changes to consistently monitor additions to, or removals from, the group. Additionally, you can export smart group data to create reports that audit changes to the devices in your environment.

The following criteria can also be used as advanced search criteria. Jamf recommends using smart groups in this context because their membership is dynamic and they can be used for scoping. Advanced searches can be useful for reporting and auditing purposes. Keep this in mind when creating advanced searches.
