To clear Activation Lock with Jamf School, you need the following:

  • Supervised mobile devices with iOS 7.1 or later

  • Supervised computers with macOS 10.15 or later (with Apple silicon or the Apple T2 security chip)

  • Find My enabled on the device (For more information, see Set up Find My on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac from Apple's support website.)

When viewing management information for a device, you can view the Activation Lock bypass code for the device and use it to clear Activation Lock. Depending on when and how Activation Lock was enabled on the device, Jamf School collects the following types of Activation Lock bypass codes:
  • Device-generated bypass codeThis bypass code is collected if the device supports Activation Lock and the end user has enabled it.
  • Jamf School–generated bypass code

(Mobile devices only) This bypass code is collected if Activation Lock was enabled directly on the device using Jamf School.

Both bypass codes are stored and displayed in the device's inventory information in Jamf School, under Device Details.

Note:

You can also clear Activation Lock in Apple School Manager for enrolled devices. For more information, see Turn off Activation Lock in Apple School Manager in the Apple School Manager User Guide.

  1. In Jamf School, navigate to Devices > Inventory in the sidebar.
  2. Click the device you need the Activation Lock bypass code for. In the Device Details pane, the bypass code displays in the Activation Lock section.
  3. Clear Activation Lock by doing one of the following:
    • To clear Activation Lock using Jamf School, click Clear activation lock in the Device Details pane. Activation Lock will be cleared on the device the next time it checks in.

    • To clear Activation Lock directly on a device, wipe the device, and then begin the device setup process. When the Activation Lock screen displays, enter the bypass code in the password field and leave the Apple Account field blank. For more information about wiping a device, see Wipe Device.

      Note:

Depending on when and how Activation Lock was enabled on the device, both the device-generated bypass code and the Jamf School–generated bypass code may display. If you are not sure which code is valid, try each bypass code to clear Activation Lock on the device.
