When a device has been replaced under Apple's One (1) Year Limited Warranty policy or is stolen, you can transfer the replaced or stolen device's lifetime license to a new device if specific conditions are met and if Jamf Support determines that there is sufficient support documentation from Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider to process a license transfer.

To meet the required conditions, the device must be repaired or placed under warranty by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. You must provide Jamf Support with documentation from Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider containing the following information:
  • Serial numbers of the old and new devices

  • Reason for the repair and replacement

  • If the device was repaired or replaced under warranty
    Note:

The lifetime license will not be refunded free of charge if the device was repaired or replaced for a fee.

  • An official police report, if the device was stolen

The following workflow explains how to request to transfer a lifetime license from a broken, stolen, or damaged device to a new device.

  1. Initiate a repair request via Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. To initiate a repair request online, navigate to Get Support.
    Note:

If you want to repair your own devices, you can apply for Apple's Self-Servicing Account Program. For more information, see Self-Servicing Account Program from Apple's support website.

  2. Save the support documentation from Apple that includes the serial numbers of both the old and new devices.
    Important:

Jamf Support cannot transfer the license to the new device without the support documentation from Apple.

  3. Once the old device has been replaced, enroll the new device in Jamf School. For more information about the methods you can use to enroll devices, see Enrollment Methods.
  4. After enrolling the device, navigate to Support > New ticket to create a ticket with the support documentation from Apple attached. For more information, see Creating a Support Ticket.

Jamf Support will review the supporting documentation and determine if there is sufficient information to process a lifetime license transfer.
