The On-demand installation feature allows you to scope App Installer apps to the required macOS device group.

Requirements

  • If you do not have a user assigned to a device, navigate to Organization > Settings and click Jamf School Student on the right of the sidebar. In the Device Session section, select the Allow the app to be used on devices without a permanent owner checkbox.

  • Create a device group to allow on-demand scoping of App Installers. You can view this group in the Jamf School Student app by clicking Discover in the sidebar.

  • After creating the device group, change the display option of the device group by navigating to Devices > Device groups, clicking the required Group Name, and clicking Edit to select and save how the app is displayed in the Show in the iOS App section.
    Note:

    This device group is static or smart.

  • The App installers link must be turned on.

  • Download the required app. Navigate to Apps > Inventory in the sidebar and click the required app Name in the table, and scope to the desired group using the Search for a device group to add drop-down. If you have selected the Settings option making all new scopes Automatic installation, click and select Change to on-demand installation, and click Save to apply the settings.

  1. In Jamf School, navigate to Apps > App Installers in the sidebar.
  2. Click the required app Name in the App installers inventory table that you want to distribute.
  3. Click the + icon to on-demand scope the app by selecting the required device group for app distribution in the Search for a device group to add drop-down.
  4. Click and select Change to on-demand installation.
  5. Click Save.
    The results are the following:

    • Available devices display below in the Devices in scope tab.

    • In Jamf Teacher, do the following:

      • Click Discover in the sidebar.

      • Navigate to Jamf Teacher > Refresh to update the display with the app.

The app displays in Jamf Teacher or Jamf School Student in Discovery and is available in the scoped device group.
