If you prefer to manage app updates manually, or if you want to push an update sooner than the next scheduled automatic update from Jamf School, you can force app updates on devices from the app updates page.

  1. In Jamf School, navigate to Apps > Updates in the sidebar.
  2. To update an app on one or more devices where it is installed, do the following:
    1. Click the number displayed in the Devices column, or click Show devices in the Actions column.
      Note:

If the Actions column is not visible, scroll horizontally on the page. Alternatively, click Table Settings in the upper right and adjust the position of the Actions column in the table.

    2. To update the app on a single device, click Update on this device on the right side of the device's row.
    3. To update the app on multiple devices, select the checkbox next to each device you want to update the app on, and then click Update all devices.
  3. To update an app on all devices where it is installed, click Update all devices in the Actions column.
    Note:

If the Actions column is not visible, scroll horizontally on the page. Alternatively, click Table Settings in the upper right and adjust the position of the Actions column in the table.

  4. To update multiple apps on all devices where they are installed, select the checkbox next to each app you want to update, and then click Update in the upper right.

The app update is pushed to the selected devices. To have the devices receive the app update promptly, make sure the devices are connected to a network.

Note:

If the app is in use on a device, the user will be prompted to either quit the app and install the update or defer the update.
