You can only enable Single App Mode for apps managed by Jamf School, as well as unmanaged built-in system apps, such as Books, Music, and Safari. Single App Mode cannot be applied to user-installed apps.

Requirements
  • Supervised mobile devices with iOS 9 or later, or iPadOS 9 or later

  • Supervised Apple TV devices with tvOS 9 or later

  1. In Jamf School, navigate to Profiles > Overview in the sidebar.
  2. Click + Create Profile.
  3. Select the iOS or tvOS operating system.
  4. (For iOS profiles only) Select the Device Enrollment enrollment type.
  5. Enter a name in the Profile name field and configure the additional settings as needed, including the time filter.
  6. Click Finish.
  7. In the list of payloads on the left side of the pane, locate the iOS payload (Supervised only) or tvOS payload category depending on the operating system of the devices you are configuring a profile for and click the Single App Mode payload.
  8. Click Configure.
  9. Select the Lock device to one specific app checkbox.
  10. From the Lock in app pop-up menu, choose the app you want to launch on your devices.
  11. Use the Enforced Options and User Configurable Options checkboxes to customize the desired Single App Mode options.
  12. In the list of payloads on the left side of the pane, locate the General category and click the Scope payload.
  13. Configure the scope of the profile by clicking the + icon and adding device groups to the profile scope using the pop-up menu. For more information, see Device Groups.
  14. Click the Settings icon on the right side of the page, and do one of the following:
    • To install the profile on devices automatically, click Change to automatic installation for all groups.

    • To allow users to install the profile themselves, click Change to on-demand installation for all groups. The profile will be available for users to install in the Jamf Teacher or Jamf School Student apps.

  15. Click Save.

When Single App Mode is enabled, certain processes within the app may default to the system settings rather than the app-specific settings. This can result in app notifications reverting to the basic Apple ringtone instead of the custom tone set within the app.
