Every device enrolled in Jamf School must have a license assigned to it for the device to be managed. The following are possible device license purchase scenarios:
If your school is located outside the United States, you can contact a local Jamf partner to purchase device licenses using the Jamf Partner Directory.
If your school is located in the United States and includes a Jamf School bundle or enhanced support, your reseller can purchase device licenses for you.
If you are currently using a Jamf School trial instance, the default length of a trial license is 30 days. After the trial expires, you have a two week grace period to purchase device licenses to continue using Jamf School.
When your licenses expire, there is a two week grace period in which you can still use Jamf School. During the grace period, you can either remove devices to free up licenses or purchase new licenses to continue using Jamf School after the grace period passes. If you do not take action before the grace period passes, you must contact your Account team or Jamf School reseller to purchase new licenses and continue using Jamf School.
The following table describes the available license types:

Calendar year | A calendar year license ends on December 31. You can purchase a one, two, or three year calendar license. If the license is purchased on a day other than December 31, you will be charged for the months and days remaining in the calendar year instead of the full year. |
Academic year | An academic year license ends on July 31. You can purchase a one, two, or three year academic license. If the license is purchased on a day other than July 31, you will be charged for the months and days remaining in the academic year instead of the full year. |
Academic year (Southern hemisphere) | An academic year license for the Southern hemisphere ends on January 31. You can purchase a one, two, or three year academic license. If the license is purchased on a day other than January 31, you will be charged for the months and days remaining in the academic year instead of the full year. |
Full year | A full year license ends one year from the date it was purchased by default, or you can configure the end date. You can purchase a one, two, three, or four year full year license. |
Lifetime | A lifetime license is purchased once to manage a device in your Jamf School instance for its lifetime and does not expire. Because a lifetime license is tied to a unique device by its serial number and is valid as long as the device is managed in your Jamf School instance, the license cannot be transferred to another device. |
