When a device is removed from an app's scope in Jamf School, the app enters a deferred removal period during which the app is blocklisted from the device for two weeks. After the deferred removal period ends, the app and its associated data are removed from the device. Deferred removal prevents the immediate loss of personal app data in case a device was mistakenly removed from an app's scope.

Note:

If a device is removed from the scope of an app purchased in volume, the volume purchasing license is removed from the device, and the app enters a volume purchasing license grace period of 30 days before it is removed from the device.

An app is automatically marked for deferred removal on a device when either of the following occurs:

  • The device is removed from a device group to which the app is scoped

  • A device group that the device belongs to is removed from the app's scope

You can revert an app's deferred removal status on a device by re-adding the device to the device group or re-adding the device group to the app's scope.
