When managing web clips, keep the following in mind:

  • Users can always create web clips.

  • You can prevent users from removing web clips by deselecting the Allow removing apps checkbox in the Restrictions payload located under the iOS payload category.

    Note:

When a layout is configured, users cannot remove web clips regardless of this restriction.

  • When safelisting or blocklisting apps, you can allow or restrict all web clips. For more information, see Configuring a Web Content Filter Profile for Mobile Devices.

Requirements
  • Shared iPad devices with iOS 11.3 or later

  • Mobile devices with iOS 11.2 or earlier

Note:

Web clips configured on these devices cannot be saved to the Home screen.

  1. In Jamf School, navigate to Profiles > Overview in the sidebar.
  2. Click + Create Profile.
  3. Select the iOS operating system or select Upload custom profile.
  4. If you selected the iOS operating system, select the type of enrollment you want to make the profile for.
  5. Enter a name in the Profile name field and configure the additional settings as needed, including the time filter.

      Best Practice:

      Note:

Apple recommends using a square image that is no larger than 400 x 400 pixels and less than 1 MB when uncompressed. Image files are scaled and cropped to fit when necessary.

For more information, see Web Clips device management payload settings for Apple Devices in Apple Platform Deployment.

    5. If you want to allow users to remove the web clip, select the Enable removal of this Web Clip checkbox.

  10. In the list of payloads on the left side of the pane, locate the General category and click the Scope payload.
  11. Configure the scope of the profile by clicking the + icon and adding device groups to the profile scope using the pop-up menu.
  12. Click the Settings icon on the right side of the page, and do one of the following:
    • To install the profile on devices automatically, click Change to automatic installation for all groups.

    • To allow users to install the profile themselves, click Change to on-demand installation for all groups. The profile will be available for users to install in the Jamf Teacher or Jamf School Student apps.

  13. Click Save.

To remove a web clip after the profile is deployed to devices, locate the web clip in the Web Clips payload and click remove Web Clip, then click Save. The web clip is removed from the profile and will be removed from devices after the updated profile is re-deployed.
