Requirements
To configure the Locations and Location Options settings in the Enrollment payload, you must set up locations in Jamf School. For more information, see Locations.
To configure authentication during enrollment, you must configure the Authentication payload on the page. For more information, see the following:
- In Jamf School, navigate to in the sidebar.
- Click the Enrollment payload.
- From the pop-up menu at the upper right of the pane, choose one of the following:
To allow each location in your environment to configure settings in the Enrollment payload that are independent of those configured in the main location, choose .
To ensure all locations in your environment use the settings configured in the Enrollment payload in the main location, choose .
- To configure which regions devices can enroll from, choose an option from the Enrollment Restrictions pop-up menu.
- To enable Activation Lock on devices enrolled using on-device enrollment or User Enrollment, select the Automatically enable Activation Lock on devices that are not enrolled using Automated Device Enrollment checkbox.
- To assign the currently logged-in user to the placeholder device, select the Keep current assigned owner if no owner is configured in a placeholder checkbox.
- To automatically move enrolled devices to the trash after the MDM profile is removed, choose an option from the Automatic Trash pop-up menu.
- To allow users to enter any password for the Apple School Manager password, select the Disable password check for users that have been imported from ASM checkbox.
Note:If you are using local authentication, Jamf recommends selecting this setting.
- To allow users to authenticate during Apple Configurator enrollment, select the Apple Configurator Authentication checkbox.
Note:Users authenticate using the credentials configured in the Authentication payload on the page.
- To allow users to authenticate during on-device enrollment, select the On Device Enrollment Authentication checkbox.

- Use the Locations and Location Options settings to configure how the location for a user or device is determined when a user authenticates during enrollment.
- To automatically rename devices without a placeholder name or a name specified in an Automated Device Enrollment profile, select the Enable Renaming Devices checkbox and enter the new name in the Rename to... field.
- Click Save.
