Configuring Apple School Manager Synchronization Settings

Requirements

To synchronize information with Apple School Manager, you must integrate Jamf School with Apple School Manager. For more information, see Apple School Manager Integration.

  1. In Jamf School, navigate to Organization > Settings in the sidebar.
  2. In the Apple School Manager settings section on the left side of the pane, click the payload with the Apple Account you use for Apple School Manager.
  3. Select the Enable synchronization of managed Apple IDs with Apple School Manager checkbox.
  4. (Recommended) To synchronize classes from Apple School Manager to Jamf School, select the Enable synchronization of classes checkbox, and then select the Creating missing classes checkbox.
  5. To choose which locations in Jamf School are populated with user accounts from locations in Apple School Manager, select the Creating missing users checkbox.
  6. If you want to distribute books or audiobooks to student devices, click Invite users to register with volume purchasing.
  7. Configure the Location settings as needed to sync users from locations in Apple School Manager.
  8. If no users are associated with a class that you would like to synchronize to Jamf School, choose a location from the Location to use for syncing staff personnel pop-up menu. The users will be synced as staff to the specified location.
    Note:

    If you choose "Do not synchronize", any user not associated with a class as a student or teacher will not be synced.

  9. Click Save.

    One-way synchronization is now configured.

  10. (Two-way synchronization only) Use the Apple School Manager SFTP payload to do the following:
    1. Configure basic settings, including selecting the Enable option to upload users to Apple School Manager through SFTP checkbox.
    2. To automatically upload student, staff, roster, class, and location information in Jamf School to Apple School Manager using SFTP, select the Automatically use SFTP to upload data to Apple School Manager during synchronization checkbox.
    3. (Recommended) Deselect the Creating missing users and Creating missing classes checkboxes to prevent users and classes from being added to Jamf School before the sync is completely configured.
    4. (Optional) To ensure users in multiple classes remain in their current locations during a sync, select the Do not automatically move users from their current locations checkbox.
    5. Click Save. 
  11. Navigate to Dashboard in the sidebar and click Synchronize Now to manually sync and fix any errors that occur. For more information, see Syncing Manually from the Dashboard.
The configured settings will now sync from Apple School Manager to Jamf School.
