Apple Configurator is a free app from Apple that you can use to configure and prepare devices.
If you want to use Automated Device Enrollment but your devices were purchased outside of your Apple School Manager account, such as devices not purchased directly from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller, you can use Apple Configurator to add them to Apple School Manager in preparation for Automated Device Enrollment. When deciding whether to use Apple Configurator for iPhone or Apple Configurator for Mac to add devices to Apple School Manager, use the following guidelines:
To add an iPad or iPhone to Apple School Manager, Jamf recommends using Apple Configurator for iPhone. For instructions, see Add devices using Apple Configurator to Apple School Manager in the Apple School Manager User Guide. Alternatively, you can use Apple Configurator for Mac.
To add a Mac computer to Apple School Manager, you must use Apple Configurator for iPhone. For instructions, see Add devices using Apple Configurator to Apple School Manager in the Apple School Manager User Guide.
To add an Apple TV device to Apple School Manager, you must use Apple Configurator for Mac and follow the process in Prepare Apple TV in Apple Configurator for Mac in the Apple Configurator User Guide for Mac.

You can also use Apple Configurator to activate supervision on devices with the intent to manually enroll the devices in Jamf School later.
Supervising and enrolling a device using Apple Configurator will erase the device.
