Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) 2.0 is an open standard for exchanging authentication and authorization data between an identity provider (IdP) and a service provider. The overall goal of the SAML-based SSO configuration process is to federate RapidIdentity and a service provider so that users in the RapidIdentity environment can access the service provider's web-based service through a single sign-on (SSO) experience.

RapidIdentity supports the SAML 2.0 web browser SSO profile, which uses the HTTP redirect, HTTP POST, and HTTP artifact bindings. Users access the service provider through the RapidIdentity portal, and RapidIdentity authenticates them as the IdP.
