Methods and States

This table lists each sign-in method,the state it displays when it is not enrolled, and the state it displays when it is enrolled.

Note:Third-party methods such as Duo, Social, and Federation appear only as active. You cannot enroll or manage these methods from the Authentication Methods screen.

Method-specific Requirements

MethodRequirements and Notes
SMSYour organization must have a mobile number on file for your account. When no number is found, a prompt directs you to contact your administrator. During enrollment, a verification code is sent to your phone number, which you enter to confirm enrollment.
Personal emailYour organization must have a personal email address on file for your account. When no address is found, a prompt directs you to contact your administrator. During enrollment, a verification code is sent to your personal email address, which you enter to confirm enrollment.
TOTP (authenticator app)Install an authenticator app such as the RapidIdentity Mobile app, Google Authenticator, or Microsoft Authenticator on your device. During enrollment, scan the QR code displayed on screen with your authenticator app, then enter the six-digit code it generates to complete setup.
Mobile appDownload the RapidIdentity Mobile app before enrolling. During enrollment, scan the displayed QR code with the app to link your device. You can manage or remove registered devices from the Manage screen.
WebAuthnWebAuthn lets you use a hardware security key or biometric, such as Touch ID or Face ID, to sign in. During enrollment, follow the browser prompts to register your device or key. You can rename or delete registered devices from the Manage screen.
PictographSelect a set of images that you recognize during sign-in. When your administrator updates the pictograph configuration, your status resets to Enroll and you must re-enroll.
