Custom helper text on the Authentication Method screen guides users through the authentication setup process. You can configure helper text per policy using language tailored to required and optional, additional authentication methods. Helper text displays when a user configures their authentication methods for the first time and when a user manages or updates their authentication methods.

Note:Helper text is optional. If no custom helper text is in use, the Authentication Method screen displays the default messaging.

Required methods should include helper text that explains why certain methods are required or provides instructions specific to your environment. Additional methods should include helper text that communicates how many authentication methods a user must complete and provides guidance on selecting those methods.

Important:Helper text only supports plain text and does not support formatting such as bold, links, or line breaks. Each custom helper text field supports a maximum of 255 characters and content that exceeds this limit cannot be saved.
  1. Navigate to your RapidIdentity administrator portal.
  2. From the Dashboard pop-up menu, choose "Configuration".
  3. In the Policies section, click Authentication.
  4. Open an existing unified authentication policy, or create a new one.
  5. Click the Authentication Methods tab.
  6. In the Helper text for end user field under the Required Methods section, enter a message.

    For example, You must complete both of the following to access your account. Contact the help desk if you need assistance setting up an authenticator app.

  7. In the Helper text for end user field under the Additional Methods section, enter a message.

    For example, Complete any 1 of the following methods. If you do not recognize an option or need help, contact IT support.

  8. Click Save.

The helper text displays to users at the corresponding step during authentication method setup.
