Use schedules to apply the content rules or custom rules in your content filtering policy during the times you choose. Schedules can be set to occur once or on a recurring basis. If you apply a schedule to a device that does not support this feature, the rule will work on that device as if no schedule were applied. The scheduled date and time are based on the device's time zone.
Sometimes content rules and custom rules overlap. For example, you can block an entire category with a content rule, and create a custom rule that allows one specific site that would otherwise be blocked by your content rule. Whether or not you apply a schedule, custom rules always override content rules. The following table explains what happens when scheduled content rules or custom rules either block or allow content.
| Block | Allow | |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled content rule (with no overlapping custom rule) | Content is blocked during the scheduled times. Content is not blocked at other times. | No content is blocked. |
| Scheduled custom rule (with no overlapping content rule) | Content is blocked during the scheduled time. Content is allowed the rest of the time. | Content is always allowed. |
| Scheduled custom rule and an overlapping content rule (scheduled or unscheduled) | Content is blocked during the custom rule's scheduled times. At other times, the content is blocked or allowed per the content rule. | Content is allowed during the custom rule's scheduled times. At other times, it is blocked or allowed per the content rule. |
