Use the following steps to configure UEM signaling to control tethering on end user devices:

  1. Creating the Extension Attributes in Jamf Pro

  2. Configuring the Jamf Pro Smart Mobile Device Group

  3. Creating a Jamf Pro Configuration Profile

  4. Assigning a UEM tag in Jamf Security Cloud

Note:

UEM Signaling is a tool that replaces the legacy Tethering control in Policy 1 for iOS and iPadOS devices. UEM Signaling with Jamf Pro supports iOS and iPadOS devices only.

Ensure that you are fully familiar with setting up your Data Usage policy before proceeding with these tasks. For more information, see Data Usage Policy Settings.

While a device is roaming, the tethering sessions should always be disabled if you want to prevent high data consumption.

For a domestic device, the tethering sessions will be disabled after a device reaches a pre-configured data limit according to the data usage policy that you assign to the device.
