- In Jamf Pro, click Settings in the sidebar.
- In the System section, click SMTP server .
- Click Edit .
- Use the Enable SMTP server switch to enable SMTP server.
- Click the Authentication method pop-up menu, and choose Basic Credentials.
- Enter a server and port number in the Server and port field.Example:
smtp.serveraddress.com : 465
Note:Jamf recommends using the following port and encryption pairings:
TLS encryption: port 587
SSL encryption: port 465
No encryption: port 25
To help keep data and communications as secure as possible, port 25 is blocked in Jamf Cloud and cannot be opened.
- Click the Encryption pop-up menu and choose an encryption protocol.
- Enter a value in the Connection timeout field to determine how long Jamf Pro should wait before it stops attempting to connect to the SMTP server. The default value of 5 seconds is recommended for most environments.
- Enter your SMTP account username or email address and password in the Username and Password fields.
The credentials entered here are used for sending and receiving email.
- Enter a display name in the Sender display name field.Note:
This field must only contain the following:
Letters (A-z)
Numbers
Periods
Spaces between names (e.g., Samantha Johnson)
Most email service providers use the display name associated with the account on the email server instead of the sender display name.
- Enter an email address in the Sender email address field.Note:
This email account must be associated with the SMTP server that you entered earlier. Most email service providers use the email address associated with the account on the email server, instead of the sender email address.
- Click Save .
Jamf Pro is now configured to send email notifications.
