Important:
You can create a configuration profile with a Restrictions payload to defer the availability of software upgrades and updates for up to 90 days from the date released by Apple. You can configure the deferrals for major upgrades, minor updates, or application updates (for example, Safari). Apple deprecated the keys for the Defer updates of settings in the Restrictions payload for computer configuration profiles in macOS 26. Jamf recommends managing software update deferrals with the Software Update Settings component in Jamf Pro blueprints. Important:
Upgrades and updates installed via remote commands are not deferred by this restriction.
- Navigate to the Restrictions payload, and then click the Functionality tab to set deferral restrictions.
There are multiple options to configure deferrals. For example, you can defer all software updates, or in macOS 11.3 or later, you can defer minor and major updates independently with different deferral intervals.
Important:On computers with macOS 12.3–12.6, major upgrades to macOS 13 may be incorrectly made available to users to install and upgrade if a deferral is only configured for major software updates. Jamf recommends upgrading target computers to macOS 12.6.1 or deferring both major and minor updates.
