In Jamf Pro you can customize the end user experience for App Installers in the following ways:
  • Configure global settings in Settings > Computer Management > App Installers. These settings control the end user experience for all App Installers deployments. You can customize the settings or choose default settings implemented by Jamf Pro.

  • Customize the settings for each app separately by navigating to individual App Installers deployments and clicking on the End user experience tab. Then click the Custom button for each setting. This will override any global settings.

These settings determine how an end user is notified when an app update is available. All notifications are displayed in the Notification Center.

Note:

The default messages are available in each of the following languages: English, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese. Customized messages are not translated.

You can configure the following settings:

  • Notification frequencyChoose how often the notification message is displayed.
  • Notification messageCreate a message to display as the push notification (up to 150 characters) when an app update is available.
  • Update deadlineChoose how long the user can defer the update before the app is forced to quit and complete the update. When enabled, and if the system language is one of the six languages available in Jamf Pro, the notification message includes "Days Remaining" and the value.
  • Force quit messageCreate a message to display as the push notification (up to 150 characters) when the app is forced to quit to complete the update.
  • Force quit grace periodChoose how many minutes the user has to save work and close the app before the app force quits to complete the update.
  • Update complete messageCreate a message to display as the push notification (up to 150 characters) to indicate when the app update is complete and the user can reopen the app.
  • Automatically open app after updateWhen Open app is selected, the app will automatically relaunch after the update is complete. This does not apply if the app was closed before the update started.
  • Suppressing notificationsWhen Suppress all notifications is selected, notifications will not be displayed. Jamf does not recommend suppressing all notifications. This may prevent end users from known an app is quitting to complete an update.

If you prefer to allow App Installers to manage the notification settings, the default values are as follows:

  • Notification frequencyOne daily notification
  • Notification message"An update is available. Quit this application to allow the update to complete."
  • Update deadlineNone
  • Force quit message"This application will quit to complete the update."
  • Update complete message"Update complete."
  • Automatically open app after updateOpen app is selected.
  • Suppressing notificationsSuppress all notifications is not selected.
Beginning with Jamf Pro 10.47.0, new versions of apps distributed with App Installers will use a generic Self Service icon, regardless of the chosen distribution method. If you have a branded icon set up in Self Service, that icon will be used in the notification. The following is an example of the notifications an end user will see in the Notification Center using the default messaging and a force quit grace period enabled:
An example of four notifications an end user might see in the Notification Center when a software title deployed via App Installers requires an update. The notification text indicates an app has an available update, when the app will quit to perform the update, and when the update is complete.
