Parents use instructions provided by the school to add devices to Jamf Parent by scanning the QR code using a mobile device with the Jamf Parent app installed on it (requires iOS 16 or later or Android 7 or later).
Note:
Parents can download the Jamf Parent app from the App Store or Google Play.
On the student's device, the parent opens the Jamf School Student app.
The parent taps the student's avatar.
The parent taps Authorize parent and a QR code displays and is valid for one minute.
Note:
The QR code can only be scanned once and a new one is automatically generated after the code is scanned or after one minute has elapsed.
On the parent device, the parent opens Jamf Parent and taps Get started.
The parent taps Scan QR Code and uses the parent device to scan the QR code displayed on the student's device.
The parent enters the parent device name they want to display in the list of supervising devices.
Note:
The configured device name will apply to all subsequent student device pairings. If all student devices are unpaired from the parent device, parents will be prompted to enter a parent device name again when a new student device is paired.
The parent taps Confirm to manage the student's device.
If the parent wants to add another device, the parent taps the parent and child button in the upper-left corner, then taps Add child and repeats steps 1 through 3 on the child's device, then steps 5 through 7 on the parent device.
The student device is paired with the parent device in Jamf Parent.
If two or more parents want to manage the same student's device with Jamf Parent, they must tap Authorize parent on the child's device again to generate a new QR code before scanning the QR code on the second parent device with Jamf Parent.
A notification displays on the parent device each time a new supervising device is paired to the student's device. Parents can view a list of devices supervising the student's device by tapping the more options button in the upper-right corner of Jamf Parent and tapping Supervising devices. There is no limit on how many supervising devices can be paired with a student device.
