The Apple Push Notifications service (APNs) certificate allows you to create a trusted relationship between your devices, Apple, and Jamf Now, and is an important step in setting up your Jamf Now account.

Note:

The APNs certificate is required to manage devices with MDM. You can renew your certificate at any time. APNs certificates must be renewed annually.

Requirements

Verify that you have an existing APNs certificate ready for renewal in Jamf Now.

Note:

During renewal, you must use the same Apple Account that you used to generate your original APNs certificate. If you cannot remember your Apple Account, refer to the article Determining the Apple Account Used for Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) Setup.

  1. Log in to Jamf Now.
  2. Click APNs.

    Your existing APNs certificate displays on this page, as well as your Apple Account if you previously saved it when setting up APNs.

  3. Click Renew.

    You will see a four-step process in Jamf Now.

  4. Click Download Certificate Signing Request.plist and click Next.
  5. Click Open the Apple Push Certificates Portal. A new window opens and you must reauthenticate with the Apple Account and password that you used to originally generate your APNs certificate.
    1. Click Renew next to the certificate that matches the information displayed in Jamf Now, including Subject DN and expiration date.

      Note:Click the Certificate Info icon next to a certificate to display additional information, such as Subject DN.
    2. Click Choose File to upload the Signing Request that you downloaded from Jamf Now, and click Upload.

      If the upload is successful, you will see a confirmation message with a green check mark.

    3. Click Download.

  6. In Jamf Now, under the APNs tab, click Next.
  7. Drag-and-drop your file or click Browse to upload your new APNs certificate, and then click Next.
  8. (Optional) Save your Apple Account in Jamf Now to make the renewal process easier in the future.
Your APNs certificate is now renewed and is valid for another 12 months.
