Understanding content filtering and network ports in Jamf Now is important when using networks with a strong firewall. Network filters can block communication both to and from Jamf Now's network. Network administrators can use this information to manage content filters. Jamf Now cannot control the network filters.
Device Communication with Apple Services
Jamf Now uses the Apple Push Notification service (APNs) to communicate with managed devices through push commands. Devices also communicate with Apple services, like the App Store, to process app installation commands sent by Jamf Now. To ensure your devices can communicate properly with Jamf and Apple, you need to open the following ports on the firewall:
443 for device activation, App Store communication, and other Apple services
5223 to communicate with the Apple Push Notification service (APNs)
Device Communication with Jamf Now
For a device to communicate with Jamf Now, you need outbound connections to the following Jamf Now domains and applicable subdomains:
*jamfnow.com
*jamfcloud.com
If the device functions correctly with a hotspot and the issue persists only when connected to your Wi-Fi network, there may be a network-related problem with the Wi-Fi connection. Contact your network administrator and confirm that the network is configured to allow for Apple and Jamf internet traffic.
If the issue persists after confirming the network is configured correctly, contact Jamf Now Support at support@jamfnow.com.
