Requirements

The App License Assignment Type must be set to Apple Account-based app assignment. To select this assignment type, navigate to Jamf Now > More Settings > Apps. If the device-based app assignment is selected, Jamf Now will assign apps to the device and not to the Apple Account.

Inviting devices to join volume purchasing in Jamf Now requires a personal Apple Account. Device users can add their Apple Account by selecting Settings > Sign in to your iPhone, or if permissions allow, by signing in to the Apple Account during setup.

Note:

You can have ten devices (no more than five computers) associated with your personal Apple Account for purchases at one time.

If you create an Apple Account in Apple Business or Apple School Manager, it is created as a Managed Apple Account. Managed Apple Accounts cannot be used to accept volume purchasing invites. For more information about Managed Apple Accounts, see Intro to Managed Apple Accounts in Apple Business in the Apple Business User Guide.

  1. Log in to Jamf Now.
  2. Select the device you want to invite.
  3. Click on the Action pop-up menu (•••) in the top-right corner and select "Send Invite".

The Devices section, highlighting the Send invite option from the pop-up menu.

The device will receive the request to join volume purchasing during the next device inventory. Once accepted, apps can be assign to the Apple Account signed in on the device rather than the device's serial number.
Warning:

Jamf Now will no longer be able to control app updates of managed apps, this includes Managed Apple Accounts for Apple Business and Apple School Manager. For more information on Managed Apple Accounts, see Service access with Managed Apple Accounts.
