When you deploy an app to devices in a blueprint, you can choose one of three deployment methods:
- Automatically install an app on devices
- Make an app available on devices by installing Jamf Self Service for macOS
- Use a combination of both deployment methods
Self Service allows users to browse and choose which Mac App Store apps, App Installers apps, and custom apps they install on their computer. You can also add a description for custom apps to display in Self Service.
The app is added to the Apps tab in Jamf Now
Devices are unlocked
(Wi-Fi only devices) Devices are connected to a network that does not prevent app installation from Apple
(Cellular devices) Devices are connected to Wi-Fi if the app is 200 MB or larger
Note:If your devices have unlimited cellular data, you can configure them to install all apps using cellular data. To enable this on the device, navigate to and choose Always Allow. A weak cellular connection may still prevent installing apps.
Targeted computers must be logged in to the local Mac user account used to enroll with Jamf Now.
Targeted computers must have macOS 11 or later.
Apps must be volume purchased, custom ("third-party" or "in-house") apps, or App Installers apps.
For more information about adding volume purchased apps to the Apps tab in Jamf Now, see Syncing Volume Purchased App Licenses to Jamf Now.
Apps with the Install Automatically checkbox selected are deployed to any devices already in this blueprint and to any devices added to this blueprint in the future. If users manually remove these apps, the apps will automatically reinstall on devices when devices sync with Jamf Now.
Apps with the Display in Self Service checkbox selected are available in Self Service, and the Self Service app is deployed to any devices in this blueprint that match the Self Service requirements.
If both the Install Automatically and Display in Self Service checkboxes are selected, the apps are both deployed directly to the devices and available in Self Service.
If a device was enrolled with Open Enrollment, a prompt displays requiring the user to approve the installation when Jamf Now deploys an app for the first time. This prompt only appears during the initial installation and not during subsequent updates.
