Automatic app updates are enabled by default.
Twice daily, Jamf Now gathers updated app information from Apple's App Store. When a device syncs with Jamf Now, Jamf Now compares the version of the apps on the device with what was collected from the App Store. If an out-of-date app is detected, Jamf Now will ask the device to install the latest version. For an app to automatically update with this process, the Automatic app updates checkbox must be selected in Jamf Now, and devices with out-of-date installed apps must sync with Jamf Now.

Note:If the app is in use on the device, an App Update alert message appears with the following buttons:Update quits the app and begins installation of the update.
Cancel allows the app to remain open without installation of the update. When you quit the app, the update installs automatically.
The following is an example of an alert message:

(Wi-Fi only devices) Devices are connected to a network that does not prevent app installation from Apple
- (Cellular devices) Devices are connected to Wi-Fi if the app is 200 MB or largerNote:
If your devices have unlimited cellular data, you can configure them to install all apps using cellular data. To enable this on the device, navigate to and choose Always Allow. A weak cellular connection may still prevent installing apps.
