The Jamf Migrate workflow temporarily removes some managed settings and applications from computers while the computers transition from your old MDM solution to Jamf Pro. To ensure your new Jamf Pro environment is configured to redeploy the necessary configurations and applications, review the following migration considerations:

  1. Plan for temporary removal and replacement of managed apps and books.

When the old MDM profile is removed, managed apps are removed from computers. If correctly configured, your Jamf Pro server will re-distribute your managed apps after enrollment. Make sure app licenses are assigned and your managed apps are configured in Jamf Pro.

  2. Plan for temporary removal and replacement of configuration profiles.

When the old MDM profile is removed, common configuration profile payloads may cause temporary interruptions in internet connectivity and system messages until the computer enrolls with Jamf Pro and re-distributes these settings.

    • Wi-Fi network

If a computer's only network connection is configured via a configuration profile, it may lose internet connectivity. If this occurs, Jamf Migrate prompts users to select an available Wi-Fi network in order to continue.

    • System extensions, Privacy Preferences Policy Control, and content filter

End users may see macOS permission prompts display when your old MDM profile is removed.

  3. Monitor for false-positive alerts from third-party security software.

If your organization deploys security software to computers, some Jamf Migrate activity may be misinterpreted as malicious. Communicate with your information security teams about your MDM migration and ensure Jamf Migrate processes are not blocked.
