Jamf Trust can detect dangerous or unstable connections that often result from insecure captive portals. These captive portals can intercept traffic which creates connectivity issues.

With dead gateway detection (DGD), the Jamf Trust app can provide notifications on end user devices regarding the current state of their connection. DGD uses general connectivity checks, such as captive portal and web connectivity checks, while using Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) endpoint resolutions to detect a dead gateway. To directly support DGD, bypass mode in Jamf Trust prevents dangerous traffic from passing through the VPN tunnel. This allows end users to browse the internet safely without their VPN or work applications.

Bypass mode performs periodic checks with varying frequency, depending on several circumstances, such as an active internet connection. Once Jamf Trust detects that the connection is safe to return, the app automatically exits bypass mode.

Dead gateway detection support is available on the following versions of Jamf Trust:
