Become familiar with Apple's services and how they complement Jamf Pro.

• Apple provides a number of essential services to help organizations manage content and deploy devices.

• Apple Push Notification service (APNs) enables organizations to perform remote management tasks on MDM capable devices whenever APNs is available.

  • If a device is not turned on or connected to a network, the device will not be able to receive any MDM commands.

• Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager allow organizations to:

  • Acquire licenses of apps and books for distribution

  • Configure automated enrollment with an MDM provider like Jamf Pro

  • Create Managed Apple IDs

• Managed Apple IDs can be created within Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager and allow for:

  • Account-driven User Enrollment

  • User-based app and book deployment

  • Shared iPad and iCloud features

  • Administrator-initiated password resets

• If your organization qualifies for Global Service Exchange (GSX), you can integrate it with your Jamf Pro server to view warranty details for eligible devices.

• Not all programs or services are available in every country or region.

1. Can a device that's not connected to a network receive MDM commands from Jamf Pro?
   No. If a device is not connected to a network, it will not be able to check with APNs for any available MDM commands. Once the device regains a network connection, it will once again be able to check with APNs for MDM commands.
2. What functions do Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager provide for administrators?
   These services allow organizations to acquire licenses of apps and books for distribution, configure automated enrollment with an MDM Provider like Jamf Pro, and create Managed Apple IDs.
3. What does integrating Global Service Exchange (GSX) with Jamf Pro allow organizations to accomplish?
   If an organization is eligible for Apple's Self-Servicing Account program, they can integrate GSX with Jamf Pro to provide warranty information right within a device's inventory record.
